Under normal conditions, a celeron has far more thruput than any network adaptor ever will. Maybe this is why so many web servers aren%26#039;t the fastest CPU%26#039;s out there (2.0 ghz celeron%26#039;s are quite common).

It would depend on where you live. Prices are different all over the country. Metro areas are normally more expensive but might have better quality. If I were you I would check your local phonebook for someone who designs site in your area and get a quote from them.

I was wondering if anyone could provide some insight on how to distribute Home Office and auto expenses across multiple businesses. I have a web hosting business, three rental properties, and a regular full time job. In the past I deducted my vehicle expenses on the web hosting only, and deducted my home office expense under 1 of the rental properties in Turbo Tax.

Should I split the cost of the Home office expense across the three rental properties and the web hosting evenly or should I only take the deduction against one. For example: If the home office expenses were 4000.00

Maybe they used a Pay to surf program. A program like that redirect the traffic through the same ip. That explains why you%26#039;ve seen the same ip and OS in your logs.

But even if you get 10.000 visitors, by the way they might be real, this kind of traffic is useless as the users are being paid just to open sites, not for evaluating them.

You could always try godaddy.com for Windows hosting on the cheap, but I don%26#039;t know many people who praise godaddy.com%26#039;s Web hosting that highly. I%26#039;ve never used them so I can%26#039;t attest to their efficiency.

If you%26#039;re putting up a simple site for personal use, you can get cheap hosting for around $10 a month, maybe a little less. And it still usually has lots of features so you won%26#039;t outgrow it too soon.

If you%26#039;re putting a site for a bsuiness, you%26#039;ll want something more robust. Maybe even something that allows multiple sites or more space, like I said, it kind of depends.

There are a large number of web site hosting service providers operating from India (accepting fee in INR etc), but most of them have the servers physically located overseas mainly in US and UK. I will answer part of this, as I have done this and it is legal, if a bit over the line ! Work as a sub-contractor directly for Dad company. You are a sub, but can use his federal and state info. with his premission. This way you can also funnel income into his company and he can pay you as his ; lets say you are a rental company he uses and he pays you income renting whatever you agreed to supply. Its like an S Corp. set up. You don%26#039;t take a salary, instead you lease your truck and tools to the corp. and take the lease payments ( which are non-tax-able) as income. same trick. just be careful if you do begin making too much money to pay your tax%26#039;s thru DAD co. so he won%26#039;t get in a jam... good luck!

I took on a website created in php and now hosted at yahoo. I can (and have) edit the php files to change text, but I want to redesign the tabs and other aspects of the site. Should I do sitebuilder? or someone suggested Joomlah cm? It is a pretty simple site with text info, and form (applications, enquiries) submission (no animation, no registration). How do I get value from Network Solutions?

Recently I got a couple of domains from Network Solutions. A colleague in IT just raved about how they%26#039;re the best, they have the most services, they%26#039;re the Hertz/VISA/Nike/AmazoneBay of web services - how could I go wrong?

Well, I%26#039;m thinking I did go wrong. Though my friend touted the %26quot;free%26quot; website setup I could get at NS, I ended up paying $60 annual for lowest-tier web hosting. That%26#039;s OK, but then I found out I had to use THEIR web design tool - and after a 30-day trial, THAT will also cost me. Further, their tool is worse than inflexible - it fails to function because it overrides or erases my setup.

What I%26#039;m thinking now is to transfer my domains (since I own them now) to another web service (GoDaddy or some other). I want to contact my credit card company and cancel the web hosting/design tool part of my purchase with NS.

Has anyone dealt with managing their own domains and websites? Any *good* advice (as opposed to my colleague%26#039;s) as to what my options are now?

All you will need to do is once you have the web hosting site ensure they enter the proper DNS records for your site. That will then propagate across the Internet. You can tell NS where the site is once you set it up and they can also update their DNS and WHOIS database.

legal issues--depends on who owns the domain name. If your friend paid for it then he owns the domain name (for the term he signed up for) and can host it wherever he wishes. If he let the webdesigner buy it and it is in web designers name he may have slight problems that only a civil court could decide. He should have full (not limited) access to his own site. Sounds like he needs a reputable web designer.

I want to add what joe h answered. It%26#039;s not always enough if your friend %26quot;paid%26quot; for the domain name.

The $64k question is to whom the domain name is registered to and paid DIRECTLY by. If the domain name%26#039;s indeed registered under the webmaster%26#039;s name and is paid for by the webmaster%26#039;s credit card or something similar, then demonstrating ownership towards the domain name WILL be a nightmare.

If by having limited permission to access the web host you mean your friend can only access the website hosting, then s/he at least can do something to the website. Gaining ownerhip and control over the domain name is something only your friend can possibly take it up with the domain provider in question, and that%26#039;s if the domain name is registered to your friend instead of the webmaster.

Unfortunately this is a typical scenario many people face every other day, especially if they keep relying on others to handle it for them without taking some time to understand a few basic yet crucial ideas about how these things work. Worst case scenario is taking it to Court, and you STILL won%26#039;t get the domain name if the judge doesn%26#039;t rule in your favor.

Can I sue someone for repeated harassment and blatant extortion? The situation is as follows: A man asked me for help with his website. The request was for setting up a shopping cart that he could take orders with via the web. He repeatedly emphasized that %26quot;the best deals are made on a handshake%26quot; and thus we have no contract but had a verbal agreement that I would be paid 10% of gross sales that the site produced. The shopping cart software that I had him purchase was unfortunately too advanced for his current web hosting service and I politely offered to host it on my personal web host for him until he got a new server provider. Ideally I just wanted to be paid for doing some coding and installing the shopping cart. The man stated that if I didn%26#039;t want a percentage of sales, he would pay me $500 for the work I had done and we would part ways. After a few weeks of getting to know this guy, things seemed more and more shady.

Can I sue for Harassment and Extortion?

He is also attempting to bully you into continuing to work for him for free.

Encountering people like this idiot is one of the hazards of being self-employed.

Unfortunately, since you have no written contract, you will not be able to recover any money from him if you sue him. However, if he attempts to sue you, you can counter-sue for malicious prosecution, and filing a frivolous lawsuit.

At this point, I strongly urge you to seek counsel. Most attorneys do not charge for an initial consultation. What the attorney can do is, if this bully attempts to sue you for ANY amount, is write him a letter, saying that you are now represented by the law firm, and all correspondence is to come to the attorney.

You would be surprised at how quickly people like this man back down when faced with an attorney.

Additionally, do not take anymore calls from him.

If he continues to harass you about the website, tell him that you will get a restraining order and have him arrested for harrassment. He is, at this point committing a crime by attempting to force you to work for him.

I want to have a web site of my own, but have it only available to me. I want the website to be where i can upload files from another computer(not the computer with the server on it) on the site in order to access them some where else like a meeting of something. Problem Transferring Domain?

I registered 2 domain names with my previous web hosting company and am now planning to migrate to another new registrar, as well as a new hosting company.

The problem I%26#039;m facing now is that this hosting company is not cooperating to give me the AUTH Code for me to do the transfer. I had previously registered these 2 domains with this hosting company who is an Enom reseller.

My domain is expiring in 1 month%26#039;s time.

I have written many emails to this hosting company without success. Any suggestion what course of action I can take now? Can I take my case to enom?

Do you just own the Domains or do you have site%26#039;s on them? If you have site%26#039;s on them log into the server, and save them on CD or DVD%26#039;s, if they are giving you a problem, and since they run up in a month, go to the other domain registar and purchase the domain again, they have an option that waits for it to default back and purchase it automaticly back into your control but on the other Domain Registar... then you can submit the web sites back through FTP to the server and get them running. Depending on how long they have blown you off, I don%26#039;t know if you can take action against them.. it might be some small print in the agreement you accepted when you purchased it... I dont know who you purchased it from, but for a month, I would do what I said above. Unless you own a popular name web site, then of course the above way is not a good way to go.

And it%26#039;s just MX, not MMX. Basically, the mail server needs to be setup and the mail routed to the mail server... by the main router and post master and all that.

If the host is that lousy, switch to a different one. As you control the register it takes less than 24 hours to update. This is important.

Does Google Analytics filter out search engine spiders and bots?

Our Web hosting agency provides us with Web Trends (a version from the dark ages) yet they refuse to apply the browsers.ini filter to our tracking configuration to filter out search spiders. My company does not want to switch hosting agencies because the one we have is so reasonably priced. So, I am considering setting up Google Analytics for our sites. I don%26#039;t want to wind up in the same situation though - does Google Analytics filter out search engine bots from tracked data?

According to our dark ages Web Trends, search spiders are approximately 75% of our traffic. Therefore I completely mistrust the accuracy of pretty much all the metrics - visits, page views, average visit duration, bounce rate, etc. Do you think Google Analytics can provide us with a more accurate measure of our sites%26#039; performance???

It%26#039;s obvious that they are indeed free accounts because of the url (angelfire.com/yournamehere). Is this allowed on a free geocities account? Need Microsoft FrontPage Guru!?

I know a fair bit about web design and coding but i hired someone to make me a web site nd it is online now. but my contract with that company is over. but it seems that the company coded it so it always goes to the %26quot;under construction%26quot; page. I閳ユ獫e called our domain name provider, and that is not expired until next year. my hosting company says our web hosting fees are up to date. So after about an hour of talking to different people at these places, I got a guy at MTS that knew what he was doing. He found out the issue. He tried changing a few things, but it did not work. He says he is not that familiar with front page. His recommendation was to get someone that is good with Frontpage to find out how to change that indexing so that it does not redirect the page. please help. thank you much!!

Who owns the domain name and do you have access to the account? Often changes in the dns entries will resolve this problem. Another thought... do you have more than one index. something on the route of your web???? This could also be the problem.

Is it possible to host a MySQL forum on a subdomain name?

Is it possible to host a forum that requires MySQL, and PHP, on a subdomain? I am not ready to go out and buy a full domain yet, but I will eventually. In the mean time, I wanted to host it through some subdomain. But all of those that I tried, don%26#039;t have MySQL databases, or have something else missing. Does anyone know of a good free web host that will get my forums working?

Domain transfer?

I had yahoo web hosting and site builder...but i decided to switch web hosts , however I didn%26#039;t cancel my account with yahoo first and now my page is lost in cyberspace.

firstly, do you have a full domain name. like www.microsoft.com or www.vkinfotek.com ?

if so, you are the rightful owner of the domain. no one, can hold it back from you. you should contact domain registrar for restoring your domain name.

next, when you switch domain hosting, you have to inform your new hoster about your situation and obtain the relevant ip address.

you have to inform your domain registrar of the switch and furnish your new hosting ip address.

I do believe I uploaded everything correctly to my free web host site using an FTP client. After everything is finished, I tried checking te site on the URL provided by my hosting provider.
